Japanese scholar's desk tansu style chest drawers Meiji period

Stunning parquetry work tansu chest of drawers which converts to writing desk, lid lifts off, two sections slide apart (push right hand side backwards to separate the two sections) then insert lid between the two to create writing area, detailed work to front, sides and the back, central writing area depicts a ship to top left.

The top has had tung oil applied to lift colour and feed the wood as it was very dry and bleached, the colour now matches the rest of the cabinet however it is not shiny like the lacquer finish of the rest of the cabinet, buyer may wish to improve

Dates to circa 1890 and measures approx 16" x 8" x 10" when closed (actual measurements to follow)

catch on door needs attention, door slightly warped and split evident to inside, central section slightly warped so stands slightly proud of side sections, couple of scratches to central section at front edge, small stain to top of one side section, couple of new brighter pins to hinges, otherwise in good condition for age
